Game Day 2/8/2013 (Updated)

Yeah I know, I'm still figuring out my schedule but let's dive right in shall we. Overall it was a great weekend, we got two points via a tie and a tie, I would have much preferred a win and a loss but oh well. Kurt will not be available to make the Michigan trip, and we on the radio side will be listening to Michigan Tech's Dirk Hembroff. I believe David Tuttle is away on assignment, I forgot where. And I don't think Tuttle has ever been on the road with Kurt for any on-air broadcasts. I hope Kurt heals up, but if that means we miss him for another few weeks so be it, I'd rather him be healthy as opposed to coming back to soon for just a broadcast. Here is a piece by goseawolves.com.

We play Michigan Tech this weekend and I'm hoping for the best, potentially if Wisconsin sweeps Bemidji and we sweep MT we could have 12 points (same as Bemidji) but we would be behind them because of the head-to-head match up (1-0-1 in favor of Bemidji). I like when we can open up our style and just go down and up the ice, our boys have now shown we can hang with opponents when it's five-on-five. We have to stay out of the box, and have some fun. Don't take stupid penalties, yeah you can stick up for your teammates but don't do it in a way to get a penalty. We need points, wins, not more penalty minutes. Game times are 3:07 pm AKST and then 1:07 pm AKST.

Round-Up's

This is what I hope we do to Michigan Tech this weekend
This was a great fight by the way, my friend was at Buffalo Wild Wings and said the place went crazy as Overreem was heavily favored and hyped up

Things to look out for
The last eight home games MT has gone 1-5-2
• The last five games between us MT has won the last three games, and UAA has won five in a row before that, for awhile we went 6-0-2 against MT. This is opposed to the notes section in UAA's Release where it says MT has won the last 4 of 5 and us the 5 before that
• Sophomore Derek Docken has totals of 1-2-3 in 4 games against MT
• Sophomore Andrew Pettitt has amassed 0-2-2 in 2 games vs. MT
• Junior Jordan Kwas has four Power Play goals, nobody else has more than one this season
• Sophomore Kory Roy has yet to register his first collegiate goal, 0-9-9 in 46 GP
• Senior Alex Gellert needs one more assist for his career 25th
• Sophomore Scott Allen needs two more points to amass 25 career points

  1. Listening to the game won't be the same without Kurt. We hope you feel better real soon, Kurt !!!
Hope the boys bring us home a couple of wins this weekend. Baby Kyle sends you all a high five.

  5. I knew the reason Nas sat a week ago was due to being sick with the flu. The way the guys share towels, get in each others face and generaly just be next to one another it should have been obvious that the flu bug would go through the whole team. Kwas confirmed that Friday and that could explain our lack of intensity in the first 2 periods last night. Somehow the guys found a way to suck it up in the 3rd and take a well deserved 2 points. Watch for the flu bug to travel through the Youppers after battling our guys this week. The video stream last night was fairly good however the audio sucked so put the radio on and it lagged the video by 4/5/6?? seconds. That rink with the mini skyboxes mimics several others around the country and looks like a good one.
Tonight our guys fight through the flu and bring home the series sweep.
    Go Seawolves!

  7. Well, coming home with a split is better than nothing. Sure glad we'll have Kurt & Tuttle doing the radio next week!

  8. Allegedly Kurt Haider is interviewing for a spot for the sports broadcaster for the AHL's Abbotsford Heat. Just word on the grapevine...

    1. Nooooooo, if that happens, it will be the beginning of the end of Seawolves Hockey!

    2. I don't want to see Kurt go either, but the beginning of the end of Seawolf hockey has already started. Shyiak and Cobb are seeing to that.

  9. Hey, we got a split! If that becomes a reality it is our loss and the Heat's gain. I'd imagine a higher paying job, in a beautiful arena, for a winning team and the fact that he has a near empty nest would all contribute to his moving on. I would salute him for simply being here this long.

  10. Kurts' play by play call is several leagues higher than College Hockey. Not knocking college hockey just saying his pay should be several leagues higher.
Hate to lose him but hope he gets it. His pay should reflect his abilities just like a players.

  11. I agree. It will be a tough loss for the us and the Seawolves, but if this is true and he has a chance to advance I wouldn't blame him for taking a step up.

Otherwise, gossip aside I hope he will be returning for the rest of this season's games.

  12. Whoops, I meant it will be a tough loss for 'us' and not 'the us' lol.

  13. Haider is ok, better than most, but to much emotion inflicted in his calls for me anway. McDonald from the day was better,

  14. I never had a chance to hear McDonald call their games, what year did Haider start?

    1. First, who the hell is this "McDonald" person? We've never had a Mc Donald call our games. Second, I believe Haider arrived in '96 or '97.

  15. Well who did it before Haider? Pretty sure it was Tim or Tom McDonald and certain beyond a doubt better than Kurt, get SUZE in here she will have the name.

  16. Tom Miller was the voice of the seawolves before haider was. Those who don't know who Miller was, he also was the sports reporter for KTVA back in the 80's to mid 90's when they had a sports department. Kind of wonder if anyone knows what happened to him.

  17. and to answer the question, Steve macdonald was the play by play guy on the tv side when KTUU use to broadcast the games on tv for a few years. He and John Carpenter did those games for i think 4 years.

  18. Interesting info, hopefully at some point this history will be compiled and published somewhere, would be an interesting read.

  19. Won a bet with a friend regarding this one. Interestingly enough I e-mailed Kurt and asked him who his predecessor was. To his credit he replied. Excellent! Both of the UAA play by play guys have been outstanding. Tip of the hat to Kurt for being polite enough to reply to me. Wether he stays or goes, good luck either way.
