Game Day 3/01/2013 (Updated)

This weekend we square off against our rival. See what I did there? I know I'm a comedic genius, but here are some of my thoughts:

• Let the boys roam free, our team is very good at playing up and down hockey
• Stay out of the box, let's face it our special teams suck
• Score early to shut up those damn _airbankings, _airbankities, or whatever the hell they are
• No more freaking OT, I'd rather see a team win then us get another tie
• Jordan Kwas and Austin Coldwell will both be out for this weekend, time for some other guys to step up
• No current Seawolf has raised the Governor's Cup, time to change that
• These are rivalry games, anything can happen at anytime
• I hope our boys spent some time practicing their shootout moves, which I still don't fucking get: Why does UA_ have the advantage if the series gets tied 1-1?

Now enjoy some pictures along with the music:

  1. Awesome post Andrew :0) !!

Alaskana: if you drop in before the puck drops tonight, will you be putting up the chat? :D

  2. Bummer results, but gotta give HUGE kudos to Kamal who absolutely rocked. 40+ SOG and only 2 slipped by him!

    We'll (hopefully) get 'em tomorrow.

  3. My first trip to the "new" blog, gotta be really pleased with the results of the Governors Cup this year! Kept the UAA seniors hands off the cup for their entire careers, way to go Nanooks.

  4. We just don't have the horsepower to win. Our offensive scheme is garbage. And we have some good players, but somehow we manage to shackle them with this dump, chase, cycle until we turn the puck over crap we insist on playing. Shyiak aint gonna change anything so why are we not changing him?

  5. Well it was a nice weekend sweep for the Nooks, the Fairbanks fans rocked the Sully like they owned it. UAF hockey has great fans. Go Nooks!

  6. Too bad the Nanook fans weren't as loud in their OWN arena. ;)

    1. Yeah AKfan, They are saving the loud cheers for this weekend CCHA play off games, see the Nooks get home ice games because they won more than 2 games in leauge play.

    2. Umm, guessing you weren't in the Carlson Center on Friday night. It was easily louder than the Sully Mausoleum.

  7. Loved seeing the arena completely packed and the pre-game tailgater beforehand was fun! Weather was great too ☀ ☀ ☀

BTW- did anyone try that green & gold popcorn in the UAA bags they were giving out? :-O I know.. green & gold popcorn sounds weird, but YUmmmmMMmmmm! Everyone who tried it was going back to try & get more bags of it. :D The bags were free, but I wish they'd start selling them at the games!! Good stuff!

Mike (above) good question about Shyiak :-/ ..Did anyone here ever figure out when his contract was up? We really do need a major shake-up, and that's probably the best place to start.

  8. Not sure there is any answer for our situation. We cannot pay enough to get quality, we didn't include ice in a new 100+ million dollar college arena (baffling I know right?), what else could go wrong? We finish last or 2nd to last in new WCHA............I'm ready for it. Meanwhile all is fine at UAA athletic department, couldn't be better. Somehow we sunk the flagship program and what really is disheartening............we don't seem to care.

  9. Listening to the UA_ playoff game. Game 3 and they are losing 4-1 to the last place team in the CCHA. Michigan scored 30 seconds into the 3rd period and Bruce says the air is sucked from the building and fans are heading for the exits. Yup ... really good fans you have there in Fairbanks.

  10. A Mausoleum is what it sounds like up there in Airbanks. DEAD. I only hear Michigan fans.

  11. Didn't DU just outscore you clowns 13-2 on the weekend? Did you manage more than a dozen SOG on Sunday? Have you played a playoff game in Anchorage in any of your current player's lifetimes?

Yes, Michigan State showed up to play and we didn't yesterday. Enjoy living vicariously through Sparty for a week until the Wannabe Canadiens put you out of your misery for the season.

  12. I'd rather lose to DU than have the LAST PLACE team in the CCHA come into my barn and end my season in front of an arena that isn't even half full.

If the WCHA had a playoff format like the CCHA's, there would have been numerous times when UAA would have hosted a playoff series. You're comparing apples and oranges you idiot.

  13. 12 shots? Nope, shots were 34-28. lol

  14. So you wait until after your arch rival gets upset in the playoffs, which happens to be two weeks after your team quit in front of your home fans against said arch rival, to talk some mess? First it's that the CCHA shootout gives us an unfair advantage, now the CCHA playoff system is weak? I guess you're in luck...next year in the nWCHA you wouldn't even make the playoffs with your current record against nWCHA teams. Even Alabama frickin Huntsville has a better record than UAA does against nWCHA teams.

Sad thing is, I would actually enjoy it if the seapups beat those arrogant dumb asses from St. Cloud. So good luck this weekend.
